The problem
The deadline is not moving.
In simple terms: starting soon, a shipment without solid paperwork can run into trouble with a European buyer or authority, so it pays to have that evidence ready ahead of time.
The EU Deforestation Regulation applies to large and medium operators from 30 December 2026. The competent authorities' check duties apply from that same date, not earlier; what has been in place since the Regulation entered into force is the Member States' duty to designate those authorities and to set penalties.
By the time large-scale enforcement begins, the evidence chain needs to already exist, not be built after the fact.

The problem
Why now
The EU Deforestation Regulation entered into force in June 2023. Its application date has since moved twice: from December 2024 to December 2025, then split into 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators and 30 June 2027 for micro and small ones.
On 13 July 2026, the European Commission adopted a delegated act that would update Annex I, adding soluble coffee and removing leather, together with an implementing act for the regulation's Information System. The delegated act is still under European Parliament and Council scrutiny and is not yet in force. That Information System had reopened at the end of June 2026.
Digital Product Passports sit inside a wider trajectory under the EU's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, still under construction. The battery passport, mandatory from 18 February 2027, is its first concrete case.
Every date above is a published regulatory milestone. Where a framework is still being built, this page calls it a trajectory, not a settled fact.

How it works
What it does
In practice: documents go in, the system checks them, a qualified person reviews anything uncertain, and out comes a passport a European buyer can verify.
- Ingest Brazilian export documents: NF-e (Brazilian electronic invoice) electronic invoices, CAR (Rural Environmental Registry (Brazil)) geo-polygons, MAPA (Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture) phytosanitary certificates.
- Parse them deterministically against EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation) rule-packs, default-deny.
- Score the evidence for confidence, route what is uncertain to a registered human attester, and compose a Digital Product Passport: UNTP (UN Transparency Protocol), W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) Verifiable Credentials, GS1 (GS1, the global standards body for product identifiers) QR, plus a DDS (Due Diligence Statement) draft.

What this means for the business
When an inspector or a buyer's compliance team asks a question, the evidence already exists. It was assembled as documents arrived, not pulled together under pressure the week a shipment is due.
An inconsistency between a NF-e (Brazilian electronic invoice) invoice, a CAR (Rural Environmental Registry (Brazil)) polygon, or a MAPA (Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture) certificate surfaces before the shipment leaves Brazil, not after it reaches a European port. Catching it early is less rework than catching it at customs.
The evidence chain composed here is already shaped for the importer's own DDS (Due Diligence Statement), which reduces the back-and-forth a European buyer's compliance team would otherwise need to open with the exporter.
Every passport carries a cryptographic signature and a QR code. A buyer can check the signature without any access to AnyLAI's database: the verifier resolves the issuer's public identifier document and tests the signature against the key published there. Today that check follows the verification procedure AnyLAI documents; verification with standards-based third-party tools is being completed, and this page says so rather than claiming it early.
The cost of not having it ready
The same gap has a cost when the evidence is not ready before someone asks for it:
None of this is a prediction about any specific shipment. It is the ordinary cost of assembling evidence after the fact instead of before.
This is not a mockup. Below is a real, signed passport carrying demonstration content, not a real shipment, together with its QR code. The credential and the signature are genuine; the coffee lot in it is demonstration data, and the passport page lists the known limitations of this demonstration issuance. The corridor
In simple terms: this starts with the coffee trade between Brazil and Germany, the busiest lane in this corridor today.
Brazil is the EU's largest coffee supplier, and Germany is its largest single buyer. AnyLAI starts where that trade is busiest: the evidence corridor between Brazilian origins and European roasters.
Brazil-EU trade also sits inside a wider shift. The EU-Mercosur Interim Trade Agreement has applied provisionally since 1 May 2026. The wider Partnership Agreement, politically concluded in December 2024 and signed in January 2026, is a separate instrument: it is not in force and still needs ratification. It is the backdrop to this corridor, not a claim about the corridor's own legal status.
